Iguess the point is that most jalopnik readers are looking for a little bit of depth and insight in the articles not just reposts of months old videos and clickbait. when he wrote for oppo/the james bond blog they were pretty solid. now in the push for quantity over quality his articles are about as deep as a plate of cereal. and bitching about it on twitter wont fix the problem. gawker and jalopnik are currently a dumpster fire rolling downhill. they had talent but they lost it because of dentons lack of integrity and the impending hulkamania payout. the sex tape of a c list celebrity really was a hell of a hill to chose to die for.

That’s always a problem. Gawker doesn’t really have original content, it runs counter to everything they’re built on. It’s not as though Jalopnik hasn’t tried though. But making original content often involves spending money. And being original isn’t worth anything to Gawker. I’m thinking the worst part of Petrany leaving is that he was involved in making some amazing original content that will probably never see the light of day now.

Everybody on the internet is looking for people in their basements to write stuff for free for them. They only want to pay guys to steal content from other websites and re post with a click bait headline - and they are trying to design software that will do that for free. I estimate that when someone says something has gone viral, half of that volume is simply other people looking to steal and re post it.

I mean its one thing to “throw shade” but when you are constantly getting called out on the slipping quality of your posts and you’re response is to passive aggressively like everything and bitch on twitter then yea you’re gonna get called out there too. id be more than happy to join everyone making noise on the front page about the dumpster fire that is gawker media/jalopnik but for as long as I’ve been here I’ve never been out of the greys. All anyone asked for here was less “watch this old video from Facebook” or “Click on this catchy headline shitpost” and more of the effort we saw when he was running the james bond sub-blog.

I think Jalopnik is in “all hands on deck” mode and they’re getting as many page views and clicks as possible to justify their existence. Like Porsche making the Cayenne, Jalopnik needs to churn out some lukewarm shit in order to start writing the good stuff again.

Great idea, Justin! Piss off a large portion of the people who still visit your sinking ship of a site! I’m not saying all the shit-slinging Oppo does as a whole is really fair, and I try to stay out of it for the most part, but Oppo definitely takes more of the “critiquing audience” role than any of the Jalopnik editors. This is the equivalent of Ben Affleck telling everyone who said Batman vs Superman sucked to go burn in hell. It’s different.
